Health Promotion

Students that have been sanctioned by Buffalo State can be referred to complete community service hours for the Weigel Health Promotions department. All of the rules and responsibilities of a volunteer stands for a student that has been sanctioned. This is an opportunity established to engage students. Read the presidents blog about engaging students here.

COMMUNITY SERVICE FORM (FOR ALL COMPLETED HOURS)
 

To complete hours with Weigel Health Promotions, a sanctioned student must complete the following:

Step 1 - Introductions (1 Hour)

• Have a referral from Judicial or Residence Life to Weigel Health Promotions
• Contact and meet with Paula A. Madrigal, madrigpa@buffalostate.edu
• Submit the community service form each and every time service hours are completed

Please Note: You may choose to attend a Weigel Health Promotions campus event as an alternative to completing one of the following activities.

Step 2 - Webpage Reviews (1 Hour)

• Review all information (including the dropdown tabs) and provide feedback for the following Buffalo State College Department websites:
   
• Weigel Health Center
• Health Promotions 
• Tobacco Free 
• Dean of Students
• Univerity Police Department (UPD)
• Equity & Diversity
• Chartwells
• The Counseling Center
   
• Provide at least 2-3 paragraphs of feedback which must be entered in the following format:
  • Weigel - (thoughts, suggestions, observations, 3+ sentences)
  • Health Promotions - (thoughts, suggestions, observations, 3+ sentences)
  • Etc.
• Submit the community service form each and every time service hours are completed. Provide feedback for the webpages you reviewed. What did you like, not like, suggestions etc. Each task must be completed as described or the hour will not be approved.

• Look for other pages to follow from other Buffalo State Offices and Departments as well.
• Failure to comment or share may result in no hours approved for this activity. You may choose to re-do the activity.

Step 4 - YouTube/Videos (1 Hour)

• Subscribe to the YouTube Channel
• Watch at least 5 videos and provide at least 2 sentences of feedback for each one in the community service hours form.
• Provide information such as: what did you like or dislike and suggestions for future videos (our videos are student-made).
• ​You must label the video titles in which you are providing feedback in the following format:
        Video 1 - Title - Thoughts & Suggestions
•       Video 2 - Title - Thoughts & Suggestions
• Also include recomendations/links for videos you would like to see added to playlists.

  Each task must be completed as described or the hour will not be approved.

**If you have MORE THAN 5 REQUIRED HOURS, continue to Step 6**

Step 5 - Final Thought Assignment (after completing hours with the office) (1 Hour)

*This has been updated so that answers can be completed within the community service form. When you select "final paper" type "next page" in the comment box to be directed to the online questions.

For each page mentioned above, provide 1 thing you like and 1 thing that can use improvement. There is a 200 word minimum for feedback on each page.

Step 6 - Events - Search, find, attend, promote and report back about on campus events (Additional Hours Based on Attendance)

• Look for and attend any event on campus that is hosted or coordinated by an office, department or group. Consider checking our social media, newsletter, school calendar and union flyers.
• If you are attending other non-Weigel Health Promotions events or doing office hours, you must verify that there are no Weigel Health Promotions events at that time.
• Any non-Weigel Health Promotions events or office hours completed during a Health Promotions event will not be counted unless pre-approved.
• Attend a variety of events/programs (Paula may not approve events that were attended for only 1 group or organization).
• Greek Life events are not eligible unless hosted in collaboration with another campus office or department. Hours are granted for events that students attend and provide proof (photos, signatures, programs etc.)
• 1 hour per event. Pre-appoval is required in writing if event is more than 1 hour.
• All events and work that is completed for hours must be submitted every time (the same day)
• If you hold any leadership positions or are a member of a group, org or team, these events do not count.
• If you are unsure if an event is eligible, please email Paula (madrigpa@buffalostate.edu) for approval.
• Fill out the community service form and provide detailed informaiton, feedback, suggestions and thoughts (at least 2 paragraphs), photos and/or flyers (due day of event/hours)

Final Step After All Hours Completed:

Fill out this form AFTER completing all community service hours (Post-Post Test Form 3) and schedule a final meeting to complete paperwork and signatures before hours are completed.

***Meetings must be scheduled 2 business days in advance and must be on Tuesday mornings, Thursday afternoons, or Friday afternoons.***

Additional office information:

• Respond promptly to all communication, especially e-mails and voicemail/messages
• Show up on time and dressed appropriately for the assigned tasks
• Communicate any questions, concerns or issues with Paula Madrigal
• Final meetings may take several days to schedule. If you are worried about a deadline, you may want to consider asking for an extension.

It is the responsibility of the student to take initiative and complete the tasks that are asked of them in a timely manner. Weigel Health Promotions provides an engaging on campus opportunity to complete sanctioned hours. Should a student have any questions, they may contact the coordinator at any time.
